Leonardo da Vinci
Ancient Document has the 'Da Vinci' Touch
by David Bradley
The Press Association reported this week that an ancient document discovered in the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth has all the characteristics of a piece of sub-plot evidence from Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code. The seventeenth century manuscript was discovered by Llandovery College warden Peter Hogan while curating a clutch of other papers. The document purportedly draws out the family tree of Jesus Christ. The script's author is said to be one William Spenser who was not, apparently a cleric. While the plot of The Da Vinci Code is pure fiction, Hogan has sent the manuscript to auctioneers Christie's to find out whether it is a hoax and whether it might be of commercial value. Should it prove genuine the manuscript will be of great historical interest and could provide Llandovery College a great windfall.
