Breaking the Cycle of Female Epilepsy
In issue 39 of Reactive Reports I report on the issue of catamenial epilepsy in women. US researchers have made an important discovery about a form of epilepsy that affects women most severely during menstruation. The findings could lead to a new treatment based on manipulating levels of the hormone progesterone.

I am a woman that has had catamenial epilepsy for just about my entire life. It started when I was 15, and ended when I was 45. The reason it ended was because I started taking low-egestrol birth control pills. I had an ovarian cyst, and my doctor gave me the pills to break it up. What I did not know was that progresterone could be used as an anti-convulsant. I’m sure this could work for other women. It’s been wonderful being seizure free.
