Thanks once again for the detailed comment Grace, as some of you know I was abroad with the family last week travelling, hence the delayed responses. Thankfully, without vaccination, drugs, or UV we all arrived home unscathed after a relaxing week.

Great article about donkey droppings.

Er, the bacterial infections referred to here can be treated with phages. This principle was discovered separately by two bacteriologists during WW1, but known about long before, because water from the River Ganges cured people of cholera. The last 100 years have seen great developments with this science and there are all sorts of practical applications.

It is very interesting about the antitoxins. King George VI's honorary surgeon Major-General Philip Mitchiner emphasised many times in his books and speeches that antitoxins are worthwhile. For diphtheria, in his 'Fevers' notebook, he wrote "does great things in these cases". For typhoid, he wrote "Mortality - depends on treatment. Hosp 15%-16% .... NB/Paris serum reduced mortality to 4.5%." (By permission: archives at Kings College London TH/PP42/Mitchiner vols 3-13). There is more. Mitchiner's medicine saved the life of a 5 year old girl who had gangrene after a burst appendix! This research forms part of a scientific story only just written and posted online at http://www.relax-well.co.uk/Gangrene_medicine.html.

There's a KUDOS prize for the winner of the quiz.

If people are worried about picking up infections in crowded places on their travels, there is some technology that is worth considering. I haven't actually tried it yet but I have heard all about it and read the compelling evidence, although it has been rather overlooked in the UK, up until now. Fortunately the 2012 Olympics security team are looking at it. Again, this technology fits in with the teaching of Major-General Mitchiner : UV light being more important than chemical or physical methods of disinfection. That should help to sort out the TB and the viral infections. There is more about this technology at http://www.relax-well.co.uk/multimedia.html.

Perhaps we should invest in fly-swatters to beat those mosquitoes. Luckily donkeys have them readymade!

Thanks Dave.
