Thanks for your comments Rob. I was just reporting as news what Bosworth says rather than providing a full-on editorial about the issues, maybe I'll re-visit the problem in light of your comments.

FUD
There are no stats in this article. How bad exactly is this problem?
Even the BBC article has only:
"It is thought that more than two million people in the UK buy medicines over the internet, many of which are counterfeit, substandard or unapproved."
Buying online isn't the problem outlined in the article so "many of which are counterfeit" doesn't help the reader out.
Also, it is implied that all counterfeit drugs are inferior, which may not always be the case. Again, is there information on how often counterfeit drugs are "snake oil"? Any numbers at all to back up the statement "many cases of illness and even death" caused by counterfeit pharma?
Also, although the point about big pharma recuperating research investments is certainly valid, it is, I've read, the most profitable industry in the world, and some very vital medications can be prohibitively expensive. This prohibitive cost may also be associated with causing death and illnesses. I wonder what the comparative numbers look like.
In any case this article seems one-sided on an issue that has much more depth.
That being said I'm not buying any Viagra online any time soon.
