Spicy Science Extra
At Sciencebase, we attempt to cover all bases when it comes to science news, but sometimes there are great stories out there that other sites and outlets have covered that our vast team of reporters (hmmmm) simply cannot cover in the detail they deserve. Step up to the plate, Hot Science and Science Extra, collectively known, for today only, as Science Spice, because I found a nice picture of a red chilli in my photo archive while trying to update Picasa, again.
Acting as a kind of blog within a blog, the Hot Science section automatically pulls out the catchiest topics from the site by category (apologies if that particular page is a bit slow today, it’s got a lot of work to do in loading the hottest stuff) while Science Extra offers the briefest of briefs, the soundest of bites, and the juiciest of juice in science news as quick as you like. We might occasionally include a golden nugget or two from our partner sites, Chemspy.com and SciScoop.com, and even Spinneret, just for fun.
Here’s a brief selection of recent headlines and straplines:
Free from fat-free diets → And end to fat avoidance without risking health
Alien map → NASA releases the first map of an alien world
Solar bullet → Solar system is “bullet” shaped, says Voyager data
Power Plate Baloney → Scathing critique of Power Plate “exerciser”, explains why Madonna is wrong to endorse this product
You can get the most recent Science Extra items here or by clicking the blue tab at the right-hand end of the upper menu next to the Coupons button. If you want to delve further into the past the science extra archive can be found here.
If you are worried about getting burned, a nice minty raita yoghurt, will help you cope with the spicy compound capsaicinin.
