Great article. Now I like video games as much as the next teenager (err..twenty-something but let’s pretend teenager is accurate!) and I found this a very interesting read.

Thanks for the supportive comments. Yes, I think this is perhaps an additional element that the original research didn't touch on explicitly. The problem with their "model" computer game is that, in the parlance of modern youth, "it sucks big time". Someone should reproduce their experiments with commercial, well-known and well-liked games aimed at females and another aimed at males. Do the experiments with each using the game aimed at them and then switch.

Great article. Now I like video games as much as the next teenager (err..twenty-something but let's pretend teenager is accurate!) and I found this a very interesting read.

Your points are excellent ones but it may have nothing to do with the game itself at all. It may also be to do with traditional responses to boys/men winning. If, for instance, you look to well publicized sports frenzies such as football - quite male dominated - there is such a strong societal response to men in regards to winning and competition. I think that there are so many layers to this response, such as pressure to succeed academically, financially..etc. Do girls experience the same pressures? Of course, but I am only suggesting that it may not necessarily be to the same extent. Could it be that men are particularly conditioned to place a high value on winning and thus, they respond accordingly?
