You may have infected your PC with a virus that will wipe data on the 3rd of the month. Today is a good time to ensure your AV software is up to speed and to get any confessions out of colleagues on your network. According to Sophos, the virus will destroy files with the following extensions
DOC, XLS, MDB, MDE, PPT, PPS, ZIP, RAR, PDF, PSD and DMP
and replace their contents with:
DATA Error [47 0F 94 93 F4 K5]

Were you affected? The Register records that the kama sutra worm was a bit of a damp squib, but we’d be interested to hear from anyone who had a negative experience last Friday…

It struck me while posting this note that a lot of people surfing will have net nanny type software installed and so wouldn’t see this warning page because the software would block it, given the expletive-based nature of the worm-mail subject lines. So, that’s why I’ve asterisked it, not out of any prudishness, just so that the widest audience possible can access the page and do something about it before the deadline!
