I know PMR has been offering virtual chemistry for a long time, I believe he was the UK's, if not the world's, first virtual professor of chemistry (at Nottingham U), but with the advent of broadband and the readiness students have to adopt online social networking, bookmarking, interaction, etc, it is inevitable that a major component of teaching and testing will migrate to the online world in coming years. Exciting times for those of us fascinated by the social changes net technology can bring.

Well the purpose of the lectures there now is more to provide a sample for people who visit Drexel Island. They can't be fast-forwarded and so it is much better still to view them on the web or by vodcast. In terms of privacy, unless they tell me who they are they are, I can't guess from their avatar's name. I view Second Life as an additional way of interacting with students. The most useful so far has been being available while they take quizzes and discussing problems as they pop up.
