Couple more tweaks – I disabled reverse comments, so that the first commenter appears directly below a post, rather than the most recent commenter. I also fixed the get-recent-comments plugin so that my own comments no longer show up in the sidebar listing. that was a plugin upgrade issue and I’ve had to revert it to the old non-widget format to make it work.

Hahahah. Yes, I wasn’t seeing changes myself until I switched off caching and restarted my browsers.

no change… then I remembered I needed to close my browser (which clears my cookies) and restart FireFox.

Much better.

Okay, I’ve tweaked the colour scheme for links, and made them brighter, hovering will underline a link and make it darker. I’ve removed the “visited” styling so that all links whether you’ve been there and done that will do this.

Let me know whether this improves usability of the site.

While you’re on the subject of blog modifications…

I don’t know if it’s my browser only, but your hyperlink text is colored very similarly to your default text color. Unless I scroll over hyperlinks, I can’t tell what text is linked, and what is unformatted.
