An extra book just turned up - Shadows on the Cave Wall: A New Theory of Evolution by Keith Ronald Skene - which intriguingly seems to be the inverse of Lanza and Berman's Biocentrism.

Hi Dave,
Loved Lies, Damned Lies and Science. I did a review of it in video format at my youtube site. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXlHj_z0jq8&feature=channel_page. Yours is a nice short version, so better for all of us busy people. I would love to turn her book into a series of videos.

Thanks for highlighting Biocentrism. I am a fan of Robert Lanza, one of the fathers of tissue engineering. Looking forward to my own copy!

"Lies, Damned Lies and Science" brings to mind "The Bell Curve". I actually read that thick tome carefully. It turned out to be an interesting read, but chock full of self contradictions, statistical sleight of hand and outright trickery and deceit. I'd recommend it as a heavy exercise in seeing through a cloak of science to root out some really nasty agenda.

The phrase "there are lies, damned lies, and statistics" is attributed to British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli although Americans might assume it was due to Mark Twain: "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." It's a double-edged sword slicing away at the persuasive power of numbers, the use of statistics by people with a weak argument, and the fact that people will disparage statistics that do not support their argument.

That last book lies damned lies and science was used as an example in one my lectures. I didnt know that it was a book but it was used as a statement to outline the fact that stats can be distorted or something like that. (Never did to well in that class:-) ) Might have a read over the summer though now that I have some free time
