Well, this item was kind of an experiment to see what sort of topics would excite those guys over at Digg.com. It seems to have generated a flurry of interest with 6 “diggs” since I posted it on July 5. Not enough to give it any real status and demonstrating that even if you use the phrase “Top 5″ it really doesn’t guarantee any great kudos. Meanwhile, a “Top 5 iPod Alternatives” had 1084 diggs last time I looked, so maybe I need to write something a bit trendier.

Declan does not have an algorithm of his own, [Did I say he had? db] instead he did as he stated and asked a Technorati representative to provide the rank of every science blog he had collated.

According to the Technorati blog search engine, updated 50 days ago for sciencebase.com, your rank in the blogosphere IS 852. [That's what I said, but that doesn't mean it's accurate two weeks ago they said I was 602nd, db]

Declan Butler has a short article in this week’s Nature on the “Top 5 Science Blogs”. [Indeed, he does, that's what my post here was about, db] This was determined by identifying blogs written by scientists and determining their rank on Technorati. The top five are: Pharyngula, at #179 The Panda’s……
