I like the comment, &quot;backup any important data files first&quot; :) OK, reinstalling a full workable Linux environment with office, programming tools, etc is a simple &#039;apt-get install this and that&#039; command, but I remember those days I was plugging in and out in CDs for Windows, virus scanner, firewall, office, etc, etc... so let me suggest &quot;backup your partitions&quot;.

And what&#039;s that about &#039;important data&#039;... is there any other kind? :)

Another tip: put your important data in a version control system (like CVS, Subversion, Bazaar, Git...). Allows you to use the data at different machines too, and if you do, it automatically takes care of the backing up.</description>
