Not only can they get vast amounts of data, they are also now drawing an exoplanet map.

If you think it amazing that they can even spot these so-called exoplanets, then check out the latest on wind speeds on exoplanets.

Well Luke, we're having a pretty good go at destroying Earth 1.0, so what the heck? Go for it!

I am also proud to announce the same day formation of the Centre for the Destruction of Gliese 581 c. A non-profit organisation committed to the pointless destruction of this fantastic new world.

Yes, the information is scant and yet they figured out the mass, it's temperature, orbital period diurnal timescale and the presence of Earth 2.0's neighbours. Of course, this is nothing compared with the amazing extrapolations made from the spectra of a few ancient and distant supernovae (More on that and its relation to the dark energy story coming on Sciencebase this summer).

Nice one Andrew, I think actually it was always a bit optimistic of us to refer to this as Earth 1.0 at best it was a beta test at worst, we didn't even make it past the alpha testing stage. Just watch for signs of a blue screen of death some day soon.

What stuns me is how much information can be gleaned from so little data. These are vanishingly small signals that are being read here. A really astonishing discovery.
