Yes Marcus, I try to steer clear of doctors at all times, especially those wearing rubber gloves and wielding a tube of lube...

Interesting story. Good to know, and good that doctors see me rarely. (fingers crossed with a bow of gratitude)

Fortunately, since late 2005 I work from home 100% of the time. This miraculous gift gave us the opportunity to move from wonderful Germany to a relaxing beach in sunny Brazil. Though, I still do sit too many hours in front of the computer.

There's a light at the end of the tunnel though. Nowadays, we have great opportunities. For example, we can outsource certain tasks and then have more time for other things; like you mentioned quality time with our family and social networks.

Interesting take Stephan, good to hear the "moonlighting" is paying so well. Similar end result to the way my career panned out.

Trying to find balance is an issue, especially for a type A, who grabs onto something an won't let go until it's done. I work two jobs to allow my wife to raise our kids rather than trusting them to society, which will train them to reach for the lowest common denominator. I work for them. But two jobs isn't bad.

At my day job, I got my hours trimmed back to 36 hours in 4 days without a drop in pay. My other job is my own, can be done from anywhere I have an internet connection, and makes me what is coming close to twice what my day job does with half the time put in.

But there is still balance to be found. I can focus way too well at times while the rest of the world passes by. It's good for the business I'm in. It's bad for the family at times. But it's getting there.

I have come to the conclusion that the people who write books about having all together have a secret cocaine habit on the side. Or they just have a lot more money than I do to pay people. Or there really are mutants around us.
