Western development was steeped so much in Christianity, but yes from Newton to Faraday and beyond looking for God through a lens has been a common driver for scientists.

Fascinating. I'd heard of the great contribution made by Islamic scholars to science (arabic numerals!), but it was good to hear more. The end of the first episode was inspiring. It would be nice to see a programme about the Christian contribution. In the meantime: http://www.bethinking.org/science-christianity/ (mostly contemporary or philosophical).
